One of My Worst BBQ Ideas Ever!!!

Now I’ve dedicated my self to giving you the best BBQ ideas on this blog. I’ve searched high and low for BBQ ideas that’ll take you from BBQ “chump to champ” in no time.

But what I haven’t told anyone is the amazing story of the humiliating experience I endured when I was a BBQ newbie. This dreadful experience built character in me, and made me determined to generate killer BBQ ideas for the masses.

So here goes:

It was the 4th of July, 2005. I had several friends over for a BBQ and wanted to really impress them with my BBQ ideas. Believe me; my determination to become the “800-LB Gorilla” of the BBQ pit was intense!

But here’s the rub: I haven’t cooked authentic BBQ in years!

Now I’m not talking about just slapping some chicken on a Wal-Mart Grill with some cheesy rub that’s something out of Kentucky Fried Chicken. I’m talking about REAL authentic BBQ…you know--the “slow cook” variety that takes three to four hours to cook!

Here me out: 3-4 hours is a long time! But believe me; it was well worth the wait!

OR that’s what I thought!

Anyway, I decided to check out some new BBQ ideas I discovered on the Internet. I wanted to skip the “dry run” phase and go for the gusto by trying out this recipe right out of the gate on my 4th of July Guests.

Anyway, before it was all said and done, my guests ended up landing in BBQ Hell!

By the time the ribs were done, they were as dry as an old boot. My meat cleaver could barely penetrate the meat after I took it off the grill.

No worries…I thought. It was nothing that cannot be solved with a glass of water to add some pseudo –tenderness to this unmitigated disaster.

So I chopped a piece off and chucked it in my mouth. I was about to chase it down with a glass of water when the horrible taste made me spit that garbage out!

There were a LOT of fireworks flying through the air that evening. But at that moment, the sole projectile hurling through the air was my half-chewed chaw of disgusting-tasting rib meat!

Since then, I’ve gotten better. That humiliating experience taught me to try out different BBQ ideas that didn’t make my guest vomit.

One of these is a guy from Kentucky who has a plethora of BBQ ideas that’ll turn your outing into one to remember.

Oh by the way, I “saved face” that evening by running to Giant Foods and getting some chicken breasts to grill that evening. It wasn’t one of my best BBQ ideas, but, hey, at least my guests didn’t die of starvation.

Plus it was enough for them to forgive me and prevent them from telling me, “I’m going to be away that evening….” when I call them up to invite them for another BBQ!

More Killer BBQ Ideas: Video On How To Create BBQ Ribs

If you’re still looking for great BBQ ideas, you have to take a look at this video. It shows you how to create great BBQ Ribs, and shows you step-by-step how to prepare the grill.

One of the great BBQ ideas I got from this video is using wood chips to add a little smoked flavor to the ribs. I have tried using mesquite wood chips and my BBQ was tasty!

If I remember correctly, I just got some regular wood chips from Wal-mart and they worked out well!

Anyway, I hope you get some great BBQ ideas for your next outing! (and don’t forget to pitch a tent in your backyard!).

Meatless BBQ Ideas For The Vegetarian

You see, most BBQ ideas involve the traditional BBQ items: steak, sausage, and onions. But usually, these BBQ ideas don’t appeal to vegetarians and the health conscious.

So I decided to check out BBQ ideas that didn’t involve meat at all. What made me start my quest is the fact that my mother-in-law is coming over for an end-of-summer BBQ. Here are some great BBQ ideas that don’t involve any meat at all.

Here you go. I success you bookmark this page for future considerations:

I mean, who knew you can do so much with BBQ ideas that have noting to do with red meat? I sure didn’t. Heck, I might even “steal” these ideas myself!!!

BBQ Ideas That'll Impress Your Buddies Before The Summer Ends

As the ultimate BBQ enthusiast, I'm always looking for BBQ ideas that are different..and don’t cost a lot. You see, I’ve been to plenty of BBQs where all people do is roll out their rusty grill and circle a bunch of beat-to-death lawn chairs—expecting this to be the perfect “ambiance” for a great evening.

Gimme a break!

So I’ve devised several BBQ ideas that will spruce up your BBQ. The best part is that these BBQ ideas won’t break the bank and leave you knee-deep in debt.

So here they are:

  • Go to the local Wal-Mart and pick up a good ol’ white checkered tablecloth. Listen: these tablecloths are universally associated with BBQs. Once you place them on your picnic tables, it’ll give a good’ ol BBQ feel to your outing. It may seem like a cheesy idea, but (trust me) this is one of my best BBQ ideas.
  • Get some cheap, white twinkle lights and put them on fences, patio railings, and low-hanging tree branches. Here me out: I know that this isn’t Christmas. But this is one of my original BBQ ideas that really takes the cake. Imagine this: it’s getting later, you’re a little tipsy, and your friends are getting a little too “chatty" (a sure sign that a designated driver need to be recruited…pronto!). This is one of the best BBQ ideas that really lights up the evening and provides a great atmosphere.
  • Hang red and white crepe paper around tree branches to add a little “color” to the evening. If there is a thunderstorm or a lot of wind that evening, this isn’t one of the best BBQ ideas. But on a clear evening, this really livens the mood…especially since it mixes well with the lights and tablecloth.
  • Set up a tent or canopy. Of all of my BBQ ideas, this is the best. Our kids set up a tent one evening because they were going to have a sleepover. Well, they forgot to take the tent down by the time guests arrived for the Saturday night BBQ. At first it was a hindrance, but this original BBQ idea really have a summer “camping” feel to the evening. Highly recommended!!

Here’s the deal: The summer is getting closer and closer to ending. The school buses are going to be revving up for another year of carrying spitball-throwing kids...and college students everywhere are saying “Goodbye” to their parents for another semester.

So, why not have a good ol’ BBQ bash before the summer ends and the pools shut down? These BBQ ideas will make sure your evening has more flair than the “same ol’ same ol” that everyone else does.

I’ll post more killer BBQ ideas in couple days, So stay tuned!!!
